Case study · Physical product

A product designed, sold, and sold out by the studio.

MagSnow is a snowboard stomp pad with an ice scraper that attaches by magnets, so riders clear ice from their bindings without taking their gloves off. Our founder designed it, built the first units, and sells it online.

What it is

A stomp pad plus ice scraper joined by the patent-pending MagLock magnetic system

Studio's role

Mechanical design, prototyping, packaging, online store, fulfillment, and now manufacturing

Result

Sold out in all four colors its first season, seventeen five-star reviews on the store

Now

Tooling with a manufacturer, Amazon launch, trademark filing, wholesale outreach

Why it is on this site

Because building a physical product teaches you what software companies skip.

A stomp pad does not get a patch on Tuesday. The magnets have to hold at minus twenty, the scraper has to survive a season of ice, the packaging has to fit a retail hook, and the box has to say "Wilkinson Labs LLC" exactly the way the trademark does. Everything is decided before the tooling is cut, and every decision is checked against a real rider's hands in real gloves.

That is the discipline we bring to software: understand the real use, decide the details on purpose, test against the real thing, and ship something that holds up when nobody is watching.

What the studio did

  • Mechanical design and iteration on the MagLock attachment, through many printed and machined prototypes.
  • The online store, product photography, reviews, and the waitlist for the next season.
  • Packaging, barcodes, and the compliance details a retail product needs.
  • Manufacturer selection, quotes, samples, and tooling for the production run.
